In 2017, MMPC focused on advocating for strong protections in the Eastern Goleta Valley Community Plan, emphasizing the requirement for a Specific Plan before any development on More Mesa. Legal efforts continued with the support of the Environmental Defense Center, and public outreach encouraged community involvement. Natural highlights included sightings of rare raptors, the return of the Anise Swallowtail, a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk, and a modest revival of the vernal pool. The year also featured fascinating historical insights into the unscrupulous dealings of More Mesa’s namesake, John More.
