In 2025, MMPC celebrated a historic milestone: the permanent protection of 36 acres on the northwest corner of More Mesa. This first-ever conservation easement ensures that oak woodlands, riparian habitats, and public access will remain preserved forever—thanks to collaboration between the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, County Parks, Supervisor Laura Capps, and MMPC. At the same time, MMPC is preparing for new challenges. With Board President Valerie Olson stepping back after more than 35 years of leadership, the organization is inviting new community members to help carry its mission forward. Growing housing pressures and proposed changes to the Coastal Act could threaten the protections that have kept More Mesa intact for decades, making continued vigilance essential. MMPC also released its Recreational Use and Values of More Mesa report, documenting how the community uses and values this cherished open space. These insights will guide advocacy, stewardship, and future planning efforts.
