More Mesa Nature Hike with Vince Semonsen
April 11 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Join us for an informative stroll on More Mesa with local wildlife biologist Vince Semonsen. Vince Semonsen is president of VJS Biological Consulting and regular visitor to More Mesa. A lot of his work has focused on endangered species, everything from black footed ferrets to snowy plovers to CA red-legged frogs. Mr. Semonsen has led day and night hikes for all age groups and within many of our fabulous Santa Barbara County open spaces. He’s currently a board member of the Santa Barbara Urban Creeks Collective.
The walks will last 2 – 3 hours. We’ll be observing plants, animals, and their habitats. Applicable land-use policies designed to protect these important resources will be explained. And we’ll tell you about the current effort to acquire and conserve the 265 acres of the property that remains in private ownership.
We’ll meet on Shoreline Drive, where there’s vehicle parking available on the road shoulder. [See map above.]
Directions: Take Patterson Avenue south. After crossing the bike path and bridge over Atascadero Creek, the road bends to the left and becomes Shoreline Drive. You’ll see horse stables and a riding ring on your left. Just past the driveway/entrance to the stables, there’s a broad road shoulder that can accommodate parking for several vehicles. That’s where we’ll meet.
We encourage you to bring water and binoculars if you have them. Trails can get muddy during and following rainy weather, so keep that in mind when choosing footwear. The terrain is very friendly and doesn’t require much physical exertion.
Group size is limited to 15 participants.
If you would like to attend, please email mmpc@moremesa.org to RSPV.
We hope to see you on the trail!
