More Mesa Birdathon
October 10 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am
Please join the More Mesa Preservation Coalition (MMPC) and Santa Barbara Audubon Society (SBAS) for a morning of fall birding. A popular local birding hotspot, More Mesa offers riparian, oak woodland, and grassland habitats. We’ll be tapping into fall migration and the anticipated arrival of wintering raptors, such as northern harrier, burrowing owl, short-eared owl, and loggerhead shrike. Sightings of white-tailed kites would be an added bonus.
The event is intended to shed light on MMPC’s campaign to purchase the 265 acres of private property that adjoin the County-owned More Mesa Open Space.
Meet at the west entrance to the More Mesa Open Space on Shoreline Drive at 8:00.
Directions: Take Patterson Avenue south. After crossing the bike path and bridge over Atascadero Creek, the road bends to the left and becomes Shoreline Drive. You’ll see horse stables and a riding ring on your left. Just past the driveway/entrance to the stables, there’s a broad road shoulder that can accommodate parking for several vehicles. 34.252588; -119.482510
